What is Zalgo Text?

Zalgo text is text that has been modified with excessive Unicode combining characters. These are special characters that are meant to be placed on top of or underneath normal letters (like accents), but when stacked infinitely, they bleed out of their line bounds.

This creates a chaotic, glitchy, or "creepy" aesthetic that is popular in internet memes, horror storytelling, and aesthetic profiles. Just copy the output and paste it anywhere!

Controlling the Intensity

The Low / Medium / High buttons control how many combining characters get stacked onto each letter. Low intensity adds just a few marks per character for a subtle glitch effect that stays readable; High intensity stacks dozens of marks per character for maximum visual chaos, at the cost of legibility. Switch between them any time — the output regenerates instantly.

What People Use It For

  • Horror-themed content, creepypasta, and Halloween posts.
  • Glitch-aesthetic profiles and captions.
  • Cursed/chaotic meme text for comments and reactions.

Frequently Asked Questions

High-intensity Zalgo stacks many Unicode combining characters onto a single letter. Most modern browsers and apps handle this fine, but some older devices, apps, or text renderers have limits on how many combining marks they process per character — beyond that limit, the extra marks can get dropped, misplaced, or replaced with visible boxes. Simpler Unicode styles on this site (bold, italic, etc.) use exactly one character per letter and don't have this issue.

Use the Low intensity setting above for a subtle corrupted look that stays easy to read, Medium for a balance of legibility and chaos, or High for maximum "cursed" effect where readability takes a back seat to the aesthetic.

High-intensity Zalgo text is best kept to posts, captions, and messages rather than usernames — many platforms impose a character-length limit on usernames/display names, and the extra combining characters in heavy Zalgo text can quickly eat into that limit or get truncated mid-word. Low-intensity Zalgo is more likely to fit safely within a username field.
